Motherisk News: Prevention of FASD: Addressing Pregnancy and Addiction, Toronto

March 9 & 10, 2006

Conference Overview: This conference will examine the root causes of women?s alcohol use during pregnancy, including addiction and mental health problems, and ways to support women with significant alcohol problems or addictions in pregnancy.

A preconference POLICY FORUM on MARCH 9th will focus on systems of care and policies that impact the development and delivery of programs and services to high risk women and children. An expert panel will discuss how these systems and related policies might be integrated to improve women?s health and prevent FASD.

CONFERENCE DAY on MARCH 10th will focus on indicated prevention, which is directed to the care of pregnant women who have significant alcohol problems or addictions, and who require more than information, advice or brief interventions in order to change their alcohol use in pregnancy.
